Top 5 Features of GoPro Hero5 Black. Why you should buy

GoPro Hero5 Black

GoPro is a well-known brand in the action camera world. I’m a big fan of GoPro cameras right from my school days. Adding GoPro in my camera bag is a decade-long dream. Finally, I bought my GoPro Hero5 Black couple of weeks back from their official site, which got delivered from the US. More or else the price is same when you order from Amazon.in or GoPro.com. Normally it takes a weeks time to get delivered. Mine got delayed due to continuous pooja holidays and open examination by customs department in Bengaluru airport.

Hero Black5 Black is the high-end GoPro model which is available in the market. It cost you $399 (INR. 26000) plus the additional delivery charges by Fedex $56 (INR. 3500). If you’ve any friends or relatives who comes from the US, then you save that delivery charge $56.

Amazon GoPro Hero5 Black

GoPro Hero5: It supports up to 4K (30fps) video, 12MP (30fps in burst) photos, and SuperView (dynamically stretches a 4:3 aspect ratio to 16:9). It also has an ultra wide, medium, narrow and a new linear field of view, built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, waterproofing up to 10-metres without housing, microSD memory up to 64GB, and a 1220mAh battery.

It also supports high bitrate video (up to 60Mbps) and an external studio mic.

Here are the Top 5 features which I like and it will be very useful while in action.

Voice Control:

Being able to turn the GoPro by using simple voice controls like GoPro start recording, GoPro starts time-lapse and there are total 12 voice commands. Here’s the list of voice commands https://gopro.com/help/articles/Question_Answer/What-Are-the-Voice-Control-Commands

LCD Screen on the back:

The LCD screen is very intuitive and its very easy to swap the shooting modes and other fps options with a single touch. The touch display acts and feels significantly different here than the Hero4 Silver. The entire menu system has been redone to make it more intuitive to find settings. Along the bottom, it shows you the basics for that mode. For example, in the video mode, it shows you resolution and frame rate. You can tap on it to change these specs. Only the available frame rates will display at a given resolution. In theory, this looks beautiful, but in practice, it’s actually more cumbersome than I expected. I think this is because there’s just too many resolutions too closely together for a normal sized finger to hit the right resolution on that small display.

Waterproof up to 33 feet:

You can take it to 10m/33ft deep without concern for killing the camera. If you want to go below that (such as diving), you’ll need to pick up the dive case (called Super Suit, down to 60m/196ft). No need to worry about dive case in terms of swimming pool and other lesser depth places.

Voice Quality:

In terms of voice quality its good than the other predecessors, the main the reason is there is water proof case. Obviously, if you are adding an another layer of a case, the voice quality will do down. But in this Hero5 Black case, the result is pretty awesome. Where you want complete and total control over the audio to ensure 100% that it’s using the right mic. By default, the unit will auto-switch between them to reduce wind noise, and in my experience, the unit does pretty well there.

Recording Quality and GPS:

GoPro Hero 5 video quality much higher than the other versions. With a new HDR mode for dynamic shots, as well as a new field of view option called Linear, you can remove fisheye effects and generally enjoy the better quality footage. A video stabilization engine further adds to the image improvements, smoothing out footage as and when needed. Those who prefer static images will appreciate the ability to snap 12-megapixel RAW images for the first time, adding to the options available. GoPro Hero 5 now offers a built-in GPS to pin the exact spot the shot got captured. GPS will work for both video footage, as well as static photos.

Good: The GoPro Hero5 Black is a true leader in this segment with all the shooting options from its elder cousins plus raw and wide dynamic range photo capture and linear field of view video, a touchscreen, a waterproof body, GPS, electronic image stabilization, stereo audio, voice control, the option for auto cloud uploads, and the best photo and video quality.

Bad: When it comes to Battery life, especially with fully loaded features like GPS, Wi-Fi and EIS on, is predictably short and the most important things are this GoPro Hero5 camera is not compatible with older batteries. Auto upload feature only works with GoPro’s $5/month Plus service. Linear field of view and electronic image stabilization not available at all resolutions and frame rates.

If you are a biker, hiker or hitting a road trip it’s always advice to have an additional battery. Like the way, we carry power bank for mobile. Or you can buy GoPro Portable Power Pack Charger too.

The GoPro Hero 5 Black is the best all-around action camera you can buy today. It’s incredibly easy to use and the new form factor and waterproofing are fantastic additions. With IS the image quality is best-in-class and there’s plenty to love for those taking photos and the videos.
